Job Description

Experienced Code 14 drivers are in short supply, and a coal haulage contractor in Welkom is hiring. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is in Welkom (Free State). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

The work, day to day

Keep the logbook and tachograph or telematics records up to date
Check the load is secured, strapped or sealed before leaving the depot
Carry out fuel stops with the fuel card and keep the slips
Report breakdowns, delays and incidents to the controller immediately
Do a full pre-trip inspection: tyres, brakes, lights, couplings and fluids
Log driving hours and take the required rest breaks
Follow hazchem rules, placards and emergency procedures on tanker loads

You'll need

Able to be away from home for several nights at a time
Clean driving record with no serious accidents
Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)
Medically fit, including eyesight
Valid Code 14 (EC) licence

Nice if you have

Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
Knowledge of SADC border routes
