Job Description

Long hours, clean record, safe arrival every time: that is what a coal haulage contractor in Brits pays for. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

The site is in Brits; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

The work, day to day

  • Report breakdowns, delays and incidents to the controller immediately
  • Do a full pre-trip inspection: tyres, brakes, lights, couplings and fluids
  • Complete border paperwork at Beitbridge, Lebombo or other posts
  • Check the load is secured, strapped or sealed before leaving the depot
  • Follow hazchem rules, placards and emergency procedures on tanker loads

You'll need

  • Medically fit, including eyesight
  • Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)
  • Able to be away from home for several nights at a time
  • At least 3 years on Code 14 trucks

Helpful, not essential

  • Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
  • Knowledge of SADC border routes
  • Dangerous goods training certificate

What you get

  • Monthly safe-driving and fuel-saving bonus
  • Paid PrDP renewal
  • Provident fund and medical aid option

Applying, step by step

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Brits really suit you before you apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): passport copy for cross-border work, dangerous goods certificate if you have one plus Code 14 licence card and PrDP (both sides copied).
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 5 working days.

Applying is free. Nobody from How2Apply will ever ask you to pay for anything to get this job.

Before you hit apply

  • List the trailer types and routes you have done, for example "tautliner, JHB to Durban, 4 years".
  • Be honest about accidents or fines. Companies check your driving record anyway and trust drivers who tell them upfront.
