Collections Agent (Student Accounts)

You'll phone customers who have fallen behind and agree payment plans they can actually keep. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

You'll be based at a municipal accounts office in Vereeniging. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Track broken promises-to-pay and follow up within 48 hours.
• Update debtor contact details from tracing searches.
• Negotiate payment arrangements and set up DebiCheck mandates.
• Answer disputes about balances, interest and fees with a printed statement.
• Keep calls within the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act rules.
• Send written arrangements by SMS or email straight after each call.
• Record reasons for non-payment so the credit team can adjust policy.

• At least 6 months in collections, sales or a call centre
• Good with numbers, dates and payment calculations
• Clear credit and criminal record
• You keep your tone respectful even when the debtor is not

• Uncapped monthly commission on collected rands
• Structured weekday hours with only occasional Saturdays
• Council for Debt Collectors registration paid for you

• If you are already registered with the Council for Debt Collectors, put your registration number near the top of your CV.
• Interviewers often role-play a difficult debtor; stay polite, get a date and an amount, and close the call.
