Job Description

Collections at a municipal accounts office in Sandton is about firm, fair conversations and steady numbers. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a municipal accounts office in Sandton. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

The work, day to day

Keep calls within the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act rules.
Report daily on rands collected, contacts made and arrangements set.
Update debtor contact details from tracing searches.
Answer disputes about balances, interest and fees with a printed statement.
Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.
Track broken promises-to-pay and follow up within 48 hours.

What you need

At least 6 months in collections, sales or a call centre
Target-driven and comfortable with commission
You keep your tone respectful even when the debtor is not
Good with numbers, dates and payment calculations
Registered, or willing to register, with the Council for Debt Collectors

Helpful, not essential

Knowledge of the NCA and prescription rules
Experience on a collections system such as Debtmaster or a dialler platform
