Construction General Worker (Building Site)

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a townhouse construction site in Ballito can keep building. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a townhouse construction site on the Ballito side of KwaZulu-Natal. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts

• Grade 8 or higher
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
