Construction General Worker (Building Site) – Entry Level

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a townhouse construction site in Benoni can keep building. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Benoni (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor

• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
