Job Description

Every wall and slab on this townhouse construction site in Cape Town CBD needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Cape Town CBD (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

The work, day to day

Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer

You'll need

Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
Prepared to travel between sites in the area
Willing to start early, often at 06:30
Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
Grade 8 or higher

Extra points for

A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

On offer

Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
