Construction Worker (Bricklaying Assistant) – Fixed-Term

Good, straight work gets noticed on this shopping centre extension in Brackenfell, and so does turning up every day. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Brackenfell (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer

• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Punctual every morning, even in winter

• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade
• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects
• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter

• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Transport from a pick-up point to site

• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
