Construction Worker (Bricklaying Assistant) – Permanent

The school construction project in Krugersdorp needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The site is in Krugersdorp; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs

• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Punctual every morning, even in winter

• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade
• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects

• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest

• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
