TLB Operator (Civil Works) – Immediate Start

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the pipeline and trenching company in Johannesburg CBD. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Johannesburg CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a pipeline and trenching company. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Record machine hours and fuel on the daily plant sheet
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals

• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents

• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work
• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge
• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders

• Refresher training on new machines
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle

• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
