Construction Worker (Bricklaying Assistant) – Immediate Start

The low-cost housing project in Vereeniging needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a low-cost housing project in Vereeniging. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb

• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches

• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering

• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post

• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
