Control and Instrumentation Engineer – Permanent

Power has to be safe, reliable and legal. The municipal electricity department in George needs you to make it so. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at a municipal electricity department. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
• Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
• Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
• Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion
• Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
• Design solar PV and battery systems and handle grid connection to NRS 097
• Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning

• At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
• Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
• Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
• BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
• ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate

• Protection or HV operating authorisation
• Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)

• Paid professional registration and training
• Vehicle allowance for site work
• Flexible hours on design days
