Job Description

Patch, monitor, back up and harden systems at an university IT department in Rosslyn. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

Home base is an university IT department on the Rosslyn side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What you'll actually do

Work with ISPs on link faults and fibre installs
Troubleshoot load-shedding related outages and UPS failures
Document network diagrams and change records
Apply monthly patches to servers and network devices
Run and test backups, and do regular restore drills
Monitor servers, links and firewalls and act on alerts
Plan hardware refreshes and licence renewals with a budget

You'll need

Willing to do standby and after-hours maintenance
Scripting in PowerShell, Bash or Python
Clear change management and documentation habits
At least 3 years in systems, network or cloud administration
Degree or diploma in IT, plus relevant certifications
