Debt Collector (Legal Book) – Fixed-Term

You'll phone customers who have fallen behind and agree payment plans they can actually keep. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Soweto-based, with most of your time spent at a microlender call centre.

• Hand accounts over for legal action once internal steps are exhausted.
• Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.
• Keep calls within the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act rules.
• Report daily on rands collected, contacts made and arrangements set.
• Record reasons for non-payment so the credit team can adjust policy.
• Negotiate payment arrangements and set up DebiCheck mandates.
• Track broken promises-to-pay and follow up within 48 hours.

• Monthly incentives for the top three collectors
• Uncapped monthly commission on collected rands

• Interviewers often role-play a difficult debtor; stay polite, get a date and an amount, and close the call.
• Show your collection results as numbers (for example "collected R420 000 a month against a R350 000 target").
