Diesel Mechanic (Heavy Commercial Trucks)

Every hour a truck stands still costs money. This long-distance trucking fleet in Roodepoort needs a mechanic who can fix it quickly. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Roodepoort (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters

• Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits
• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Solid understanding of air brake systems

• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles
• Hydraulic systems training

• Overtime available most weeks
• Standby and call-out allowance
• Provident fund and funeral cover

• Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
• Your Code 14 is a big plus. Put it right below your name, not at the bottom of the CV.
