Diesel Mechanic (Trackless Mobile Machinery) – Fixed-Term

When production stops, the artisans get it going again. The gold mine shaft complex near Upington needs you on that team. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

The site is in Upington; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Carry out planned maintenance on loaders, drill rigs and utility vehicles
• Order spares and track them through the engineering store
• Isolate and lock out machines under the site isolation procedure
• Maintain pumps, fans and compressors in shafts and on surface
• Complete job cards and work orders in SAP after each task
• Take part in weekend shutdowns for major overhauls

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan, preferably on a mine
• Trade test certificate in your trade (diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician, boilermaker, instrumentation or rigger)
• Certificate of fitness for underground or surface work
• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits
• Able to read schematics, hydraulic circuits or wiring diagrams
• N3 certificate or Grade 12 with maths and science

• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM
• Flameproof equipment training for coal mines

• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay
• Study assistance for engineering qualifications

• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
• State your trade and the machines or equipment you know best, for example "fitter: conveyors, crushers and pumps".
