SHE Officer (Contract Mining)

The gold tailings retreatment operation near Upington needs someone who knows the MHSA inside out and can coach crews. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll report in Upington. Relocation is not covered for this one. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Review baseline and issue-based risk assessments with section managers
• Inspect workplaces underground and on surface against the MHSA and the mine's standards
• Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee
• Lead incident investigations using a root cause method
• Check that crews do planned task observations and pre-shift checks

• Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations
• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
• At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine
• Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
• Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property

• ISO 45001 auditing experience
• Occupational hygiene registration with the relevant council
• Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health

• CPD and further study funded
• Standby allowance for incident call-outs
• Company vehicle on site
• Retirement fund and medical aid

• Show your mining sector safety experience clearly. Construction-only safety CVs are often moved to the no pile.
• Mention the commodity and whether you worked underground. Mines prefer someone who knows their hazards.
