Dispatch Controller (Distribution Depot)

Behind every truck on the road is a controller; at a courier operations centre in Umlazi, that could be you. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a courier operations centre in Umlazi. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Update customers on delivery times and delays
• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries
• Assign trucks and drivers to routes and track them on telematics
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests
• Arrange breakdown recovery and replacement vehicles

• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong
• Able to work shifts in a 24-hour control office
• Matric

• Logistics or supply chain certificate
• Experience on a vehicle telematics platform

• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts
• Growth to transport manager
• Office-based work with a steady roster
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems

• Mention the tracking and Excel skills you have. Bring an example report if you are allowed to share one.
• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
