Domestic Helper (3 Days a Week)

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a guesthouse with family quarters in Stellenbosch. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The site is in Stellenbosch; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Clean windows and patio doors once a week
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation

• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Good with children and patient
• South African ID or valid work permit

• Experience caring for an older person
• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• A driver's licence for school lifts

• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
