Electrical Design Engineer (Building Services)

From MV switchgear to PLCs, this municipal electricity department in Richards Bay needs a sharp electrical engineer. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a municipal electricity department in Richards Bay. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Investigate power quality problems with a power analyser
• Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
• Design solar PV and battery systems and handle grid connection to NRS 097
• Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
• Size cables, transformers and protection using design software

• Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
• BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
• Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
• At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
• ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate

• Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
• Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW

• Clear path to associate or senior engineer
• Flexible hours on design days
