Job Description

The municipal electricity department in East London needs an electrical engineer for projects that go from design to commissioning. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Home base is a municipal electricity department on the East London side of Eastern Cape.

The work, day to day

Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion
Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Investigate power quality problems with a power analyser
Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
Set and test protection relays and keep settings records

Must-haves

Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
