Job Description

From MV switchgear to PLCs, this municipal electricity department in Kariega needs a sharp electrical engineer. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a municipal electricity department in Kariega. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What your day looks like

Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
Set and test protection relays and keep settings records

Must-haves

At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate

Helpful, not essential

Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
Protection or HV operating authorisation
