Job Description

From MV switchgear to PLCs, this municipal electricity department in Johannesburg CBD needs a sharp electrical engineer. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Location: Johannesburg CBD, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first.

What your day looks like

Set and test protection relays and keep settings records
Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
Size cables, transformers and protection using design software

Must-haves

Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts

Helpful, not essential

Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
PLC programming certification
