Job Description

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a road rehabilitation project in Newcastle. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

You'll be based at a road rehabilitation project in Newcastle. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

What your day looks like

Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day

You'll need

Grade 8 or higher
Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
Willing to start early, often at 06:30
You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
A clean record is preferred for some government sites
Prepared to travel between sites in the area

Helpful, not essential

Previous site work you can show with a reference
Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
