Electrician's Assistant (House Wiring)

Hard outdoor work on a school building project in Polokwane, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a school building project in Polokwane. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts

• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
