Electrician's Assistant (House Wiring) – Experienced

Hard outdoor work on a low-cost housing development in Pretoria West, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is in Pretoria West (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed

• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database
• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
