Electrician's Assistant (House Wiring)

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a school building project in Randburg can keep building. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll be based at a school building project in Randburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes

• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Grade 8 or higher
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
