Electrician's Assistant (House Wiring)

Every wall and slab on this school building project in Stellenbosch needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work

• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
