Electrician's Assistant (House Wiring)

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a low-cost housing development in Thohoyandou can keep building. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a low-cost housing development in Thohoyandou. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed

• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Grade 8 or higher

• Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database
• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
