Job Description

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a physical rehabilitation hospital in eMalahleni. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The work is in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

What your day looks like

  • Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
  • Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
  • Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
  • Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
  • Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores

Must-haves

  • At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
  • Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
  • SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
  • First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
  • Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
  • Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends

Nice if you have

  • Dementia care or palliative care short course
  • Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
  • A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve

On offer

  • Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
  • Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
  • Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
  • Overtime paid at time and a half

Applying, step by step

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: two references from previous care jobs, certified copy of your SANC enrolment or caregiver certificate plus certified ID and matric certificate.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 10 working days.
