Environmental Control Officer (Mine Rehabilitation)

You'll make safety real on the ground at the mineral processing plant near Roodepoort, not just on paper. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a mineral processing plant on the Roodepoort side of Gauteng. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Lead incident investigations using a root cause method
• Check that crews do planned task observations and pre-shift checks
• Take dust, noise and heat measurements with the occupational hygiene team
• Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
• Prepare for inspections by the mine inspector and follow up on instructions

• Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
• SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine
• Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it

• Retirement fund and medical aid
• Standby allowance for incident call-outs
• CPD and further study funded
• Company vehicle on site

• Give numbers: how many investigations you led, or how the LTIFR changed in your section.
• Mention the commodity and whether you worked underground. Mines prefer someone who knows their hazards.
