Excavator Operator (20-Ton, Bulk Earthworks)

The road construction contractor in Kariega needs an operator who looks after the machine as well as the job. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll be based at a road construction contractor in Kariega. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading

• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites

• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work
• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders

• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Refresher training on new machines
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
