Junior Quantity Surveyor (Private Practice) – Immediate Start

This is a numbers job with boots on: bills of quantities, site measurements and payment claims in East London. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is East London-based, with most of your time spent at a shopfitting company. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Get quotes from subcontractors and compare them line by line
• Track budget against actual cost and flag overruns early
• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings
• Take off quantities from drawings to build a bill of quantities
• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Value variations and prepare claims under JBCC or GCC conditions

• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• Understanding of JBCC Principal Building Agreement clauses
• BSc, BTech or Diploma in Quantity Surveying
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify
• At least 3 years of QS work in private practice or with a contractor

• Study support for an honours degree
• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses
• Travel allowance for site visits
• Hybrid days in the office and on site

• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
