Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields)

Crops do not wait, and a citrus farm near Kempton Park needs extra hands this season. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Location: Kempton Park, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages

• Available for the full harvest season
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Willing to start at sunrise

• Previous harvest or picking experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Tractor or quad bike experience

• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
