Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields) – Entry Level

Outdoor work with your hands on a deciduous fruit orchard near Phalaborwa; no experience needed for most posts. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Phalaborwa (Limpopo). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently

• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Available for the full harvest season
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Valid ID or work permit

• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Living on or near the farm
• Previous harvest or picking experience

• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Farm transport from nearby towns

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
