Field Service Diesel Mechanic (Roadside Breakdowns)

Every hour a truck stands still costs money. This municipal bus depot in Centurion needs a mechanic who can fix it quickly. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

The work is in Centurion, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
• Repair hydraulics on tippers, cranes and tail-lifts
• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles

• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
• Diesel mechanic trade test certificate
• Solid understanding of air brake systems

• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles
• Hydraulic systems training

• List the truck and engine types you have worked on, including electronic systems. Fleet managers screen for those.
