Fitter and Turner (Engineering Workshop)

The plastics injection moulding factory in Upington needs an artisan who can fix a breakdown fast and machine a part when needed. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

You'll be based at a plastics injection moulding factory in Upington. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS

• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns

• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants
• Forklift licence for moving heavy parts

• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
