Job Description

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for an eucalyptus plantation in the hills near Richards Bay. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The site is in Richards Bay; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

What you'll actually do

Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing

You'll need

Passes the medical check for fire crews
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Valid ID
Willing to work in remote areas
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires

Helpful, not essential

Previous plantation or sawmill experience
Chainsaw operator certificate
First-aid training
