Forestry Team Supervisor (Silviculture)

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a forestry contractor in the hills near Burgersfort. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a forestry contractor on the Burgersfort side of Limpopo. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing

• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Willing to work in remote areas

• Fire fighting training
• Chainsaw operator certificate

• Fire-season standby allowance
• Full safety gear provided
• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Crew transport to plantations

• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
