Job Description

Timber keeps rural towns working, and an eucalyptus plantation near Coega is hiring crews. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is in Coega (Eastern Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

The work, day to day

Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader

What you need

Willing to work in remote areas
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Valid ID

Nice if you have

Fire fighting training
Previous plantation or sawmill experience
Chainsaw operator certificate
