Fresh Produce Packer – Entry Level

Shoppers in Durban Central judge a liquor store by its shelves, and that is where you come in. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is in Durban Central (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Visit several stores on a merchandising route and send photos of shelves
• Face products so labels point forward and gaps are filled
• Help customers find products and carry heavy items to cars
• Collect trolleys from the parking lot
• Put up price tickets and promotion shelf strips

• Basic reading and maths for price checks
• Neat appearance and punctual
• Able to stand and lift cases all shift
• Grade 10 or matric
• Honest, since stock losses are checked closely

• Previous shelf packing or merchandising work
• Own transport for route merchandising jobs

• Travel allowance on merchandising routes
• Paid training in store procedures
• Chance to move into till or department roles
• Staff discount on groceries

• Stores fill weekend and night-fill slots first, so write "available weekends and nights" in your CV summary line.
• If you have ever sold anything, even at a school tuck shop or a family stall, list it. It shows you are comfortable with customers.
