Gate Security Officer (Residential Estate)

You'll control who comes in and out of a distribution warehouse in Mthatha, and log every visitor properly. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a distribution warehouse on the Mthatha side of Eastern Cape. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Call the armed response or SAPS number from the call list when needed
• Hand out and collect contractor access cards
• Search vehicles and bags leaving the site when company policy requires it
• Patrol the perimeter on a set route and scan checkpoint tags
• Write every incident and shift change in the occurrence book (OB)
• Check visitors' IDs and capture them on the visitor app or in the gate register
• Keep the guardhouse clean and the OB up to date for the relieving officer

• PSIRA registration at Grade C or higher, paid up to date
• Alert, polite and firm with the public
• Grade 10 minimum; matric preferred
• Able to work 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends
• Physically fit for foot patrols

• Firefighting or evacuation training
• First-aid Level 1 certificate
• Previous experience at a similar site type

• Uniform, boots and winter jacket issued
• Chance to be upgraded to Grade B with training
• Provident fund contributions

• Arrive for the interview in neat clothes with your certificates in a plastic sleeve. It shows the discipline they want.
• Make sure your PSIRA fees are paid. A lapsed registration gets your CV thrown out, even if you have years of experience.
