Grape Harvest Worker (Wine Farm)

Outdoor work with your hands on a deciduous fruit orchard near Bellville; no experience needed for most posts. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is a deciduous fruit orchard on the Bellville side of Western Cape.

• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe

• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Available for the full harvest season
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules

• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
