Grape Harvest Worker (Wine Farm)

Outdoor work with your hands on a deciduous fruit orchard near Paarl; no experience needed for most posts. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Paarl (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point

• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Valid ID or work permit
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Available for the full harvest season
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Willing to start at sunrise

• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Living on or near the farm

• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
