Home-Based Caregiver (Live-In)

A home-based care agency in Bethlehem needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Bethlehem-based, with most of your time spent at a home-based care agency. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient

• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate

• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve

• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities

• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
