Home-Based Caregiver (Live-In) – Permanent

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a private medical ward in Bloemfontein. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll report in Bloemfontein. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister

• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Overtime paid at time and a half

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
