Housekeeper and Cook (Family Home) – Entry Level

You'll keep a retired couple's cottage in Vanderbijlpark clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll be based at a retired couple's cottage in Vanderbijlpark. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Clean windows and patio doors once a week
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry

• Good with children and patient
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share

• Experience caring for an older person
• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• A driver's licence for school lifts

• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
