Human Resources Officer (Retail Region)

This open-cast mine in Cape Town CBD needs an HR person who knows labour law and the shop floor. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

You'll be based at an open-cast mine in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Coordinate training and submit SETA grant claims on time.
• Handle grievances with notes, dates and a clear written outcome.
• Represent the company at CCMA conciliations and arbitrations.
• Compile the Employment Equity report and the Workplace Skills Plan.
• Track leave, absenteeism and sick notes and act on patterns.

• Good report writing and Excel
• Valid driver's licence for multi-site roles
• CCMA experience, at least at conciliation
• A degree or diploma in HR management, labour relations or industrial psychology

• SABPP registration
• Experience on a unionised site or in a bargaining council sector
• HR system experience such as Sage 300 People or PaySpace

• Company car or travel allowance for site visits
• Annual performance bonus
• CPD and SABPP fees paid

• Prepare for a case-study question on dismissing an employee fairly, and walk through procedure and substance.
• Quantify your IR work: how many hearings, CCMA cases and outcomes; that is what HR managers check first.
