HVAC Service Technician (Office Buildings)

Keep cold rooms cold and offices cool for the residential aircon installer in Johannesburg CBD. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll be based at a residential aircon installer in Johannesburg CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Replace thermostatic expansion valves and electronic controllers
• Recover refrigerant into cylinders and log every kilogram used
• Install split units, cassettes and ducted systems, including brazing and vacuum work
• Service cold rooms, display fridges and freezers on planned maintenance routes
• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services
• Diagnose faulty compressors, fans, contactors and control boards
• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a

• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• Understanding of single- and three-phase control circuits
• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• SAQCC Gas registration as an authorised person for refrigerants
• Refrigeration and air-conditioning trade test or an NQF 4 occupational certificate

• Transport refrigeration units on trucks and trailers
• CO2 transcritical refrigeration experience in retail stores

• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns
• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges

• Mention whether you are comfortable on standby. Most service jobs in this trade include it.
• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
