Java Developer (Banking Systems)

Write clean code, review pull requests and fix what breaks at a fintech start-up in Springs. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a fintech start-up in Springs. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Write, test and refactor code in your team's main language
• Document how your features work for support and new developers
• Build and consume REST or GraphQL APIs
• Handle personal data safely, with POPIA rules in mind
• Design database tables and write efficient SQL queries
• Write unit and integration tests before you merge

• Stable internet and a quiet workspace for remote days
• Solid Git habits: branches, pull requests and meaningful commit messages
• You can explain technical choices to non-technical people
• Good SQL and understanding of relational databases
• Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript

• Tidy your public repos before you apply; recruiters and tech leads really do open them.
• Expect a take-home or live coding test, so practise with a timer in the language you listed.
